The Dignity Memorial Traveling Vietnam Wall was in Griffin for this Memorial Day weekend.

We were able to locate my Dad’s cousin, Walter Nowakowski.

We didn’t find Tommy, another cousin, because we found out after we left that his family changed their name to “Novak”. He was killed Dec. 21, 1968.

May we all pause to remember the many who gave their lives in service to our country, and the loved ones who grieve their loss.

Blessings!

52-’11 / Week Twenty / May 15 – May 21

I cannot believe how busy things have been lately. School is winding down for this year and we’ve spent several nights this week attending awards programs for Skyler. I am so proud of his academic achievements! Of course, I’m also quite proud of the young man he’s becoming; he hasn’t lost his compassion, kindness and devotion to the Lord.

We spent this evening chasing a sunset, but to no avail. So instead, I am posting one of my all-time most favorite images. I’m not sure what exactly I find so pleasing about it, but it is definitely in the top ten of favorite images I have made. I had it as my desktop wallpaper for a long time, and have a print hanging in my house. It is especially nice at full size, which you can view by clicking on the image.

Blessings! \o/

52-’11 / Week Nineteen / May 7 – May 14

Since I’ve been very busy this week, and out-of-town yesterday and today, I’ve selected an image of a different subject from a shoot in April. I guess that’s sort of cheating, but I am not able to post my photos from today’s GOP Convention. Hopefully, things will settle down in my schedule after next week.

52-’11 / Week Eighteen / April 30 – May 7

Today’s selected image is so appropriate.  It is from a series of images I made at the Georgia Lineman’s Rodeo held at the Kiwanis Fairgrounds today. Linemen teams from power companies all over Georgia test their skills in a variety of competitions.  It is amazing to see how choreographed their actions are and the level of teamwork required to perform everything from street light replacement to hurt man rescue in timed and scored competition. I didn’t get to stay from the awards, but regardless of where they placed, the City of Griffin Power team was absolutely fantastic.

What makes it all the more awesome is that these guys do this for a living everyday of the week. During the aftermath of the April 28th tornado, these guys responded immediately and with skill and professionalism, just like they do following every incident of severe weather. I am grateful and thankful for the City of Griffin Electric Department and for their hard work!
